We are Levin Repair Cafe, a group of volunteers who believe that a broken thing is not always a thing to throw away. Once a month we set up together and invite people from around Levin to bring in the items that have stopped working – appliances, clothes that need mending, bikes, small pieces of furniture – and we sit down with them and try to fix it.
We are not a repair shop. Nobody drops something off and picks it up later. The idea is that you stay, you sit with one of our volunteers, and together you have a go at working out what has gone wrong and whether it can be put right. Sometimes it can. Sometimes it cannot, and that is worth knowing too, so you are not left wondering.
This website is the place where we will let people know when the next session is coming up, and give a plain sense of what kinds of things we are able to help with and what is really beyond us.
We are also always looking for more volunteers. If you have some practical skill with sewing, small appliances, woodwork, bikes, or anything along those lines, and you like the idea of spending a bit of time helping neighbours keep their things going, we would like to hear from you.
