Levin Repair Cafe runs on volunteers. If you like fixing things, or you just want to be useful for an afternoon, there is a place for you here.
What kinds of help are useful
We are always glad to hear from people with practical skills in areas like small appliance repair, sewing and mending, bike repair, furniture and woodwork, or general handy skills. You do not need to be an expert. If you can diagnose a problem, or teach someone else how to, that is valuable.
We also need help that has nothing to do with fixing things. Someone to welcome people at the door, make tea, keep an eye on how busy things are getting, take photos, or help with the website all make a real difference on the day.
- Fixing skills – electrical, mechanical, textiles, woodwork
- Greeting and helping people find the right table
- Making tea and coffee and keeping the space tidy
- Taking notes on what gets fixed and what does not
- Helping spread the word in the community
What a first step looks like
The easiest way to start is to come along to a session and see how it works before deciding whether you want to volunteer regularly. You could also just turn up ready to help on the day.

We do not expect volunteers to fix everything. Some items cannot be repaired, and that is fine. What matters is people giving it a go together.
