About us

We run a repair cafe in Levin. Once a month people bring in broken things – appliances, clothes, bikes, furniture – and our volunteers help fix them together, rather than see them thrown out.

The idea is simple. So much of what breaks around the house could be mended with a bit of know-how and the right hands. We bring those hands together in one place, once a month, so people do not have to face a broken toaster or a torn jacket on their own.

We are for anyone in Levin with something broken and a bit of time to sit with us while we look at it. You do not need to know anything about repairs. You just need to bring the thing, and be willing to have a go alongside whoever is helping you.

We are also for people who like fixing things and want somewhere useful to put that skill. If you know your way around a sewing machine, a bike chain, a set of tools, or the inside of a small appliance, we would like to hear from you.

Some things we can help with:

  • Household appliances with a straightforward fault
  • Clothing repairs, mending and alterations
  • Bikes that need a tune-up or fix
  • Furniture that is loose, broken or needs a small repair

Some things we usually cannot help with:

  • Items that need specialist parts we do not have on hand
  • Repairs that are unsafe to attempt outside a proper workshop
  • Anything that would take far longer than the time we have on the day

We are volunteer-run, and we rely on people giving up their time and sharing what they know. If that sounds like you, we would love to talk.
